Sound familiar?

Today someone asks me to check into this new ground floor MLM opportunity for them. Where do all these gamblers come from? Don’t they know that the failure rate for new companies is around 95% during the first two years. Already this guy could be looking at only having one chance in 20 of making it to the third year with his business.

Oh, but not this new ground floor MLM opportunity. These guys have been around since 1999. They adopted the retail business model for their product. It didn’t work, but you know what, the MLM business model is what they should have gone with.

Here is what I found out in a few short minutes.

• The website does not list any information about the owners or managers so we can see what kind of experience they have in MLM or don’t have.
• They have a single category niche product. It failed in retail so now they want to go with MLM. They claim 200 million people use similar products daily in the US. Of course those products cost about one tenth to one twentieth the cost of this product. Looks like they described a different niche.
• There is no compensation plan on the web site. All I know is that they use the MLM compensation plan model.
• I checked out the product. I have seen it in the retail stores. Of course it is not there anymore. The price has gone way way up now. A package of the product is about $15. Similar products can be purchased retail for under $1.
• But there is science behind their product. Yep, one ingredient makes it different than some of the competition. But there is already competition well established who use this one magic ingredient.
• So I know nothing about the people running the company, or the compensation plan. But still I go to see what happens when I want to sign up. I have to agree to the terms and conditions. Guess what? By agreeing I am stating that I have read and understood the policies and procedures and the company’s compensation plan. They want me to lie right off the bat. Where are these items for me to read and understand.

There is more, but any of these things is reason not to look at this company seriously. Yet people will probably flock to it to get in on the ground floor MLM opportunity. They will not recognize how the company is spinning negatives into what looks like positives.

Sadly most will lose their money. Some will lose their trust in people and MLM. Some will feel their failure was all their fault.

But the first thing people should be doing is properly evaluating an opportunity. Before anything else, you must put yourself in the best possible position to achieve MLM success.

When you fall for a company with even a small amount of the kinds of problems listed above, you are reducing your chance to succeed.

It’s time to get educated.

Even when you have everything in place like the best MLM company, with the best MLM management, the best MLM compensation plan, the best MLM products, perfect timing, and a proven duplicable MLM system, there will still be logjams in your business.

Just as you are facing logjams that are blocking your Success in MLM, the lumber industry constantly deals with logjams as well. Briefly, the best way to move the logs from where they were cut, to the mill, may often be to float them down a nearby river.

In doing so, there are inevitably logjams that happen along the way. The lumber companies have learned that these logjams can be caused by a single log that gets stuck in a position to block the entire flow of the logs down the river.

This one log is called the kingpin. Move the kingpin, sometimes just a little, and you free up the entire logjam.

Your business can be the same way. One little thing can be the difference in whether your business is moving forward or not.

Your kingpin blocking the growth of your business may be difficult for you to see. That is a big reason for having mentors that can help you find your kingpin and help you move it.

Your kingpin may be something in your belief system. Or, maybe you are not getting enough personal growth. Maybe it’s just your lack of skills or lack of understanding how to do something properly.

And unfortunately many of us started out on the wrong foot by putting ourselves into a position with little hope of success. What did you miss. The proven duplicable MLM system is missed by many. Did you miss that one? Are you now trying to find out why the business is not working for you? Do you just need to find your kingpin or is it something larger?

A kingpin I see often is people with an “agenda” to get people into their company.

And many of you just read that and thought, “but isn’t that what I am supposed to do”. Cool, now you possibly just found your kingpin. If so, the next step is to figure out how to move it. So about now, you are probably thinking that it really would be a good idea to have a mentor to help me.

It’s not just a good idea. You have to have a mentor. Your team has to have a mentor. Are you going to mentor them? Then you better have a mentor and learn how to mentor others.

In recent posts we have talked about Color To Success. Here is an excerpt from the book, Success In 10 Steps, by Michael Dlouhy, that talks about this MLM concept. I love the part about the greens. I am a green. (begin excerpt)

A Concept That Changed My Life

I can’t even begin to tell you how different my life is since learning
how to spot and work with each of these personalities.

Maybe the biggest change is this: to spot these personalities,
you must LISTEN to people! And wonderful things seem to
happen when you actually listen.

Everyone is a blend of all these colors. Personally, I’m 40% Blue,
30% Red, 20% Green, & 10% Yellow. But I’ve learned to be a chameleon
to deal with people.

Used to be when I came across a Green (35% of the population, remember?),
I saw someone who took forever to make a decision.
They’d analyze it to death.

They drove me crazy. So I’d blow them off. I wouldn’t even return
their phone calls.

But look at this … I was losing 35% of my prospects! And when a
Green joins, they never quit. They’re not like the Blues. You can put a
Blue in the business tonight, but they’ll never do anything. They’ll
never even activate their business. They’ll just join, because they
thought it would be fun. But the Blues, again, will put you in contact
with a lot of good people.

So the biggest secret for me was learning that network marketing is
not a sales business.

It’s a teaching & mentoring business.
No wonder the Yellows & the Greens are so good at MLM.
AND they make up 70% of the population!

So let the Yellows & the Greens know that it’s not their fault. The
cards have been stacked against them in network marketing. And the
Reds have been telling everybody the whole time that it’s a sales
business. Sell, sell, sell.

It has NOTHING to do with selling. It has EVERYTHING to do with
teaching, training, coaching, and mentoring people.

Reds Motto: Get out of My way!

The red personality is motivated by money, love to be in control and want to have the power over everyone else. In fact they love controlling every situation every time, no matter what. They are also always right, no matter whether they are or not.

The reds also do not like talking about family, there is not need to talk about family as you can not make money doing that. Don’t ask them if they have any photos of their family because they don’t.

The reds are all about the brand names of clothing, they wear solid colors because that equals power.

The Greens are very analytical people. They are always trying to figure out why you are asking them a question. When you are talking to a Green you need to speak very slow and they enunciate their words correctly. The Greens think they are the smartest people in the world.

Greens procrastinate all the time, they also are very punctual people , very organized and accurate.

If you look at what a Yellow does for a living, they are the Teachers, Nurses or Counselors.

They are very soft spoken and very gentle people, they love to hug all the time. Yellows are also great listeners, they have patients and are very nurturing.

Yellows build large organizations when they finally get the belief they can do it. They enjoy life and they enjoy being alive. Yellows do not like confrontation so that means they do not like bully’s.

So I will be doing a series of four posts so you will get to know each personality, The Colors To Success.

Blue is the first one I will do as I am a Blue personality. Boy is this all ever true.

The motto of a Blue is FUN FUN FUN!

The blues are the life of the party, love to party and have fun more than working. They are excellent promoters, very enthusiastic, bubbly, motivating and very creative people.

Blues are very unorganized, sticky notes everywhere, they are usually very scattered, do very poor with follow ups, they love to exaggerate and have a very short attention span.

If you were to ask a Blue a question their answer would keep going on and on just like the energizer bunny. They are very open and will tell you anything you want to know and more, things you have not even asked.

The way a Blue dresses is very colorful, stylish and very flamboyant.

Do an exercise and look at the people you know. See if anyone fits the personality of a Blue.

Anybody can complicate this business, but it takes a genius to simplify it.

You have to have a Proven Duplicable MLM System for the masses to succeed. Most systems that use these words are not proven or duplicable for more than a small percentage of people. When a system works for 3% only, then 97% are not accounted for. They don’t all fail at the system because some never do anything but what you have is a system that duplicates failure. Oh, and they proved it too.

Example: A retailing system for your team. Say you have nutritional products. Would you teach people all the science, much of which is usually hype, so that they can become a product expert? That’s not simple. You will not see a lot of retailing that way. You tend to create sales people that way and 92% of our population dose not want to be a salesman.

Instead you teach people easy things to do. Like ask someone what their two biggest health problems are. Then sit back and listen. When they are done if you have a product that can help, then ask, “Would you like to do something about it.” Yes answers or pretty obvious. No answers are not so obvious. But if you don’t get the obvious yes, then move on. No need to get rejected. It is not about selling it’s about filling needs. Just because they have a health problem you can help with your product doesn’t mean that they have a need for the product.

When you do offer your product, don’t be the expert. Just say, “Try it, you might like it, and if you don’t there is a money back guarantee.”

What about simplifying sponsoring. At Mentoring For Free, we teach you step by step how to find prospects, and build a relationship. When the prospect starts asking questions, just set up a 3way call with your upline. I have never had someone ask me questions and then not want the 3way call to get the answers.

You teach it simple because anyone can do it and the prospect who has not joined you yet sees that they can do what you just did. If you complicate things, become the expert, and answer the prospects questions yourself, they are thinking, “I can’t do that.”

So the next time you evaluate a system. Think! Is it really proven to work for the masses or proven to work for 3% of the people who do it? Does it duplicate success or does it actually duplicate failure. Is it simple enough that anyone can do it and teach others to do it.
