The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

Reading this chapter and understanding it was a eye opener for me. So many people really do not act like themselves and they really just need to be genuine.

Debra Davenport discusses how she learned every single thing she could to be able to close a sale. But for one full year it never worked. She studied what she was taught, did what they said , followed everything by the book. But still nothing. Then one day when she decided to quite her real estate business she let go and was just herself. She just got to know her client, have fun just talking and getting to know each other.

Then yes that day she had her first sale. First of many to come. But it was not till she was herself did her life change completely around.

What you need to do is add value to what you have to offer others. By adding value you can excel. If you need a little of something add a little value if you need alot of something then you need to add a lot of value.

Debra says “Reaching your goal you set takes ten percent specific knowledge or technical skills – ten percent , max. The other ninety plus percent is people skills.”

What are poeple skills? Liking people, caring about people, being a good listener, but the core to people skills is who you are.

First you need to like people. Without that, you will never make it. This is a relationship business.

Secondly, You need to genuinely care for others, meaning you can understand how they feel. If they need sympathy, you are there for them, if they need help you are there for them.

Thirdly, You need to be a good listener. This one is very difficult for certain people, but once you learn to listen and I mean truly listen to what is being said and focus while you are listening, people will know you care. When you learn this, your prospects, family members, and friends will know you care.

Fourth, You need to be YOU. Don’t change.

If you want people skills you need to be a real person. Think about how you would like to be treated. How you would like people to listen to you, speak to you, and what you would like to feel coming from that person. Once you can do this you will see major changes.
